The loop road, ‘dropping off’ bays and crossing points are all part of a series of carefully planned measures designed to make travelling to and from school safer for young people. We would like to thank all the parents who have been supportive of this aim and have used the loop road safely and effectively.
Map of School Site and Loop Road
It has been good to see the number of students who now cycle to school and we thank you for your continued support in encouraging your children to walk and/or cycle to school as these measures have already made a significant difference.
Unfortunately, a small number of parents are hindering the operation of the loop road by double parking on Calder Road, close to the entrance to St Pauls’ school. This is seriously affecting the traffic flow at peak times in an area with a large number of pedestrians, many of whom are children. We have observed that it has been difficult for some parents to turn onto the loop road at the entrance to St Pauls’ as vehicles are dropping off children in the St Pauls’ car-park and then leaving by moving against the flow of traffic causing unnecessary congestion on Calder Road. The only vehicles which are permitted to travel up the road away from St Pauls’ are those belonging to school staff as well as drivers making deliveries to St Pauls.
It is vital for the safety of all our children that parents observe the parking restrictions which have been in force since 2011. These make the whole of Calder Road a ‘no parking’ zone. Enforcement of these double yellow lines will continue to be carried out at regular intervals.
Parents dropping off their children should use the loop road ‘dropping off’ bays, and, as the majority have demonstrated so far, show consideration to our neighbours by not parking anywhere on Calder Road, in Wiswell Close or Pendleton Avenue. Similarly, we would also ask parents not to park on, or turn round at the end of the private road at the end of Hurst Lane, leading to Waingate Village. Again we thank you for your continued support and co-operation here.
In the busy periods, both morning and afternoon, we would ask parents to observe the one-way system around the loop road, by turning right at the entrance to St Pauls’ Constable Lee, and not to use the roundabout on Calder Road to U-turn. The speed limit on the loop road is 5mph for the safety of pedestrians. Drivers must observe this speed limit, and should take particular care on the pedestrian zone, where the road surface is marked in red, outside the entrance to AGS.
Thank you in advance for your support in keeping our children safe, by your careful and considerate use of the roads.
