ADT is essential for the application of knowledge gained in core subject areas, to further develop the pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding, in a creative and enjoyable manner. The intent is to build these skills within a wide range of subjects and activities within art, food, design and technology. In this way students will be equipped with the learning intentions necessary to allow students to understand and build on their subject knowledge in an enjoyable and relevant way.
Projects are designed at KS3 under the umbrella of Art, Design & Technology in order that they may access and scaffold learning and allow the component skills to be delivered in a way that gives students the opportunity to develop their own approach and interests in this subject area. The environmental and social impact of their work as designers and makers is core within this ethos. An understanding of the relevance of STEM and SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) are woven within the project work.
A broad and balanced curriculum in ADT is delivered throughout KS4 to allow further scaffolding of knowledge, skills and understanding of the theory and practical aspects of the subject. We endeavour to maintain an emphasis on the practical aspect and focus on skills for their post school education and employment to create well rounded, capable individuals who may gain the skills necessary to contribute constructively and successfully to society and their community.
