The department is linked to the whole school theme of STEM & Digital Technology. Starting from this year, a new opportunity has been provided by additional timetabled time at KS3 to specifically teach ICT / Business & Enterprise Skills utilising project-based learning. This additional curriculum time has enabled more time to be allocated to Computer Science topics in the core Computing curriculum. This should allow for a deeper understanding of the different subjects within the faculty at KS3 and a more appropriate outcome when choosing KS4 options.
It is important to ensure that an ICT course is offered as an option for current Y8 / Y11 as they move in to KS4/KS5 to revive this previously very popular option. There are a number of current Y11 IT pupils who would benefit from this option being available.
Offering a choice to current Y8 between Computer Science & ICT (Creative iMedia) should ensure appropriate subject choices being made.
Developing whole school digital skills is intended to be carried out through offering iDEA (Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award) to all year groups, outside of lessons. This will be officially launched later in the year, with a pilot group starting this term (Feb 2020).
