The Humanities curriculum consists of the subject areas of Geography, History and Religious Education. Department teaching staff have specialism’s and interests in their own subject areas and have experience in supporting curriculum delivery in other areas of school. PSE, SMSC and Citizenship are braches of Humanities that are embedded within the wider school curriculum and delivered by Humanities and non-Humanities staff.
The staff of the Humanities department have high professional standards and rich knowledge and understanding of their subjects. All Humanities staff teach with dedication, enthusiasm and a real desire to better themselves, both as individuals and as a team.
● In Geography, pupils study people, places and environments at a range of scales. Pupils develop a curiosity about the world around them and make links with people and places in the wider world. They know that their actions have local and global consequences.
● In History pupils learn about significant people and events and how they have helped shape the world. They draw inspiration from important figures and learn about the wider significance of past events.
● In RE pupils learn about major world religions and religious figures. Pupils celebrate religious identify within an environment of respect and tolerance.
● PSE lessons teach pupils about their rights and responsibilities to help them make informed choices.
SMSC and citizenship education both direct and subtly help to forge pupils who are equipped to play a vital and inclusive role within society.
